after work..

Every day I go to work, like milions of others.
After work I spend a few hours a day on this hobby..while listening to music.
The fun about this hobby, you can always do anything. Building on a route, making small assets..
This week I am trying to make trees which looks nice with the Tsx machine.
It is another technique, takes a little more polygons, but for near trees it results in nice shadows falling into the cab.

New route screenshot

First screenshot out of the new route for RW3.
At the moment I am working on new trees. I am not satisfied yet, but it's a start to make nice trees which also cast shadows. It would also be nice when facing polygons would also react to the lightning. Now the always the diffuse color is like it is toward the sun, causing to light grass and trees when it's late afternoon or early morning. In this route I will try to minimize this by using less facing objects.
I still have to resolve the problem with this kind of trees, they are to sharp and edgy than the facing ones.

Major update

Since the release of TrainSimulator 2012, also known as RW3 I've started a update for my routes.

improvements for Koblitzer Bergland owners:
-track lods improved for better performance (works fine, although bug in RW isn't fixed yet)
-lofts are normalized (older Canvas plaforms) for lights. Some lofts wrong side was lightned.
-shader problems on buildings combinated with distance mountains and gloom effect.
-near trees improvement for better shadow effects.
-lights added
-and what I can find after that....

I will try to release my update via Aerosoft and/or Rail-sim.de
Expected within a month. (2-4 weeks maximum)

After that I will start to make a improved version of my freeware route Altenburg-Wildau for RW3.

Back to work..

Last weeks I spend in making scenario's for my last route, im Koblitzer Bergland.
I discovered, that is a hell of a job to make a working scenario. In the first place I don't like to cheat with AI traffic. A train form Koblizt to Wildau must actually drive that path, and not just start when the playertrain is in the neighbourhood. But it is almost impossible to achieve that without pulling your hairs out.
Trains blocking the path, priority problems...not my thing to spend time on. So back to work, making scenery for my new route..

After making skies, environment I am learning to make cars and platform characters.
Maby some people think I have a lot of experience in making models,
but most models I made were made of simple cubes, lines and other basic shapes.
In this picture 4 cars. The car at the left is my first attemp to model a car.
After watching some vid's at youtube about moddeling cars, the right one is becoming better.
All these and upcoming cars are also seen on the roads with own sounds.
I a few weeks I will present the name and details of my new route.

Environment done!

I am trying to work as systematicly as possible. Now I have finished the environmental part. A new sky for each season with 10 sorts of textures and adaptive weather patterns. Also replaced the sun and moon, and changed the azimuth angle. Now in winter, the sun stays low, and the shadows are long. With a lot of patience almost any atmosphere can be created in Railworks. Many layers of colors and lighting are giving a second render to the scene. Due of those layers, many times some surprising colors occur in the scnene, it is like a painting-pallet. New Skies

Last weeks I have spend some time to re-discover the terrain texturing and skies. Now I have made a 100% custom terrain texture set with seasonal procedural flora and now I am handling the Sky bleuprints and new clouds. It is quite a different thing than making assets, with a lot of patience, like painting on a canvas.

Example of a sky, here the alpha channel wasn't ready yet. To make a good sky, first a made a tiled sky, and after that I started making the Alpha-layer.

New Tracks

I am planning a new route..(with a train)
For this new route I want to make it as 'new' as possible. New ground textures and procedural flora, new tracks, and in the next day's I will try to make new skies and weather bins.

Addon Kobler Bergland

Aerosoft has announced my new Addon for Railworks,
This are my first steps in payware stuff, but I will also continue to make free-ware! In the next days I will publish some screens of my route, and also some video's and screenshots of my next free-ware addon. This will be a addon which can be used to make nice scenario's . Also in next period I will start to make a real train for RW, now I succesfully imported a fully featured railvehicle! Keep you updated.

A scene

Here is the village of Rinckenstadt, a small town on the river from St.Rudolf.  This scene is made for a video which I am making of my first rail vehicle. It's working, with own sounds, cab and a small waggon. After learning a lot of tryal and error, I shall start a new 'real train' project. I already did some sound recording, next step is getting technical details of the train,etc..
Objects in this scene are partly from my upcoming route, the railvehicle will be published with some new objects as freeware.

First railvehicle on tracks!

After some work I exported my first railvehicle. It's a free interpretation of a Liebherr 900, with some elements of a ATLAS crane. It is still normal asset, for the next part I have to do some study.
So many (novice) builders stopped finishing their projects, which they started so enthousiastic, because it became to complex. (regrouping, wheels, lods..engine..scripting etc...) My goal is to make a simple version, only used as AI-traffic. When it feels OK, I will try a more complex train.

Old railways

For several years now I am fascinated by old railways. In my hometown a small railway leads to the village of Stiens. It was used for transporting patatoes until the late 90's. After that it was closed and partly dismantled. Now the last parts are disapeared. Today nothing is left of the railwayhistory. There are no factory railways left..Friesland is boring for railwaylovers, thanks to ProRail. The only thing counting for them are 29 eurocents for a kilogram rails..

Both photo's are history by now.. although Arriva is investing the possibilties to reactivate passenger service on some nothern local lines. Hopefully they don't sell the land..

finishing my route, starting new project(s)

I have finished my route..feeling a bit empty when it comes to Railworks.
Some expert is now doing the (re)signalling of the route. After that I will give some information about the release of my route. I am negotiating with a German company about this.

Until then I wil start my new project..animated scenery for general use. Also I will try to make a train in the next periode. First attemp is a simple rail vehicle, just to learn. Here is a first render of a Liebherr 900(in progress of course) After that maby I start with this Diesel train which is used by Arriva in my provence of Friesland. Regards SAD
