Old railways

For several years now I am fascinated by old railways. In my hometown a small railway leads to the village of Stiens. It was used for transporting patatoes until the late 90's. After that it was closed and partly dismantled. Now the last parts are disapeared. Today nothing is left of the railwayhistory. There are no factory railways left..Friesland is boring for railwaylovers, thanks to ProRail. The only thing counting for them are 29 eurocents for a kilogram rails..

watch this sadly video...

Both photo's are history by now.. although Arriva is investing the possibilties to reactivate passenger service on some nothern local lines. Hopefully they don't sell the land..

  1. @SAD I have been making a route set in Britain and I was wondering if I could package the assets that come with your route with my own, if I can I would be most grateful :D

  2. Hmmm really a SAD story. I know this railway very well. I used to be an aircraftspotter and photographer near Leeuwarden Airbase (also almost history when I hear the news) and I frequently saw the patatoe-trains passing on their way to or from Stiens with the big brown locomotives with the yellow shields on the front. This was around 1972 till 1990. By the way I know a lot of aircraftspotters that also love trains! Maybe because the trains also have number-ID's and because they are very well worth photographing ;-)
